Why three different language usages for "time"?

[1] 42 months, Rev 11:2 & 13:5

[2] 1,260 days, Rev 11:3 & 12:6

[3] A time, a times and a half-time Rev 12:14 & 12:6

Why?

Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Caesar Nero persecuting the Christians "outside" Israel proper - outside the Holy Land - from AD 64 - AD 67. The Caesar would issue His Edicts, not for a day or a year, but month by month

1,260 Days

Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses [records - the Old Covenant Jews, which Rome was persecuting, and the New testament Christians, which Rome was ready to persecute. Amazingly, the persecution by Rome against Jews and Christians both came about the same time. Christians were burned in piles, fed to lions and gladiators, Peter and Paul and James the Just were martyred, and Jerusalem with their Temple and Israel completely destroyed, all within the same short period], and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

This prophecy was given in days rather than predetermined months. The 1,260 days something that could have ended any day. The siege could have been ended any day by the Romans . . . and the city could have fallen any day.

MODERN EXAMPLE:

The U.S. Hostages in Iran were held for 444 days is was recorded - not for 15 months" or "1 and 1/4 years" - because this was not a legally pre-determined duration decreed by emperor or law. This event occurred suddenly, could have ended any day, was followed day by day by the media and watching world.

Thus it unfolded as 444 days, not months or years.

1,260 Days

Rev 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a THOUSAND two hundred and threescore days.

Here we have the very same situation as Israel fled from the Roman army, escaping the besieged city Jerusalem, and isolating upon Mt. Masada.

This 1,260 days was something that could have ended any day. The siege could have been ended any day by the Romans - as they could have said "it's not worth it" and went home.

Likewise, Masada could have fallen any day, or the leaders chosen to surrender. Thus the record of the even was kept track of in a number of days.

A time, and times, and half a time

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come

> > salvation,

> > and strength,

> > and the kingdom of our God,

> > and the power of his Christ:

for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Rev 12:12 Therefore * * rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Rev 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted 'the woman' which brought forth the man child.

Rev 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

A time, and times, and half a time,

This is very different from the first two:

[1] Everyone knows how long a month is: 30 days

[2] Everyone knows how long a day is: 24 hours

[3] No one can say what a "time" period is:

The commonly used "time segments longer than a year" are as follows:

> > > Could be a decade - (making this 35 years)

> > > Could be a Jublilee of 50 years (used by Jewish only, making this 175 years),

> > > Could be a century - (making this 350 years)

> > > Could be a millennium although this really was used as such, no one had a word for it and nothing had lasted long enough to need this word or time frame, but it is a possibility given The Revelation Chapter 20 - (making this 3,500 years)

The most likely is the century: let's see what happens

===

Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Dan 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Dan 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Dan 12:5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.

Dan 12:6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?

==

Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever . . .

. . . that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. ==

Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?

Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

===

Note the change of subjects here:

Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever . . .

. . . that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and

[1] *** when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

[2] *** Dan 12:11 And from the time that > > the daily sacrifice shall be taken away,

> > and the abomination that maketh desolate set up,

there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Here we have 1,290 days - or 13 months - instead of the 1,260 days and twelve months of something similar in The Revelation Chapter 12.

[3] ***Dan 12:12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Dan 12:13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

42 Months

Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

Rev 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

[And he opened his mouth > > > in blasphemy against God,

> > > to blaspheme his name,

> > > and his tabernacle,

> > > and them that dwell in heaven.]

Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

Rev 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship (submit) him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Rev 13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
