ABSTRACT:

Bible Canon Files by NewtonStein is a 'Brief Series' of Documents on Bible Canonization that deal with 'factual issues only': not from any doctrinal or denominational viewpoint, but strictly from that of 'true scientific inquiry'.

The Jewish Covenant [Moses, Dut 13] and Christian Testament [Apostle Paul, I Ths 5.21], command us to 'Prove all things; then hold tightly to that which is proven good.'

We assert that in no part of Christian life can this commandment and foundational principle be more importantly applied than to a Bible Canon.

The 'Bible Canon: Brief Overview' considers the following questions:

[1] Does Scripture itself call for a 'Bible Canon'?

[2] Did the 'Jewish Bible' of Christ's day have a 'Canon'?

[3] What is 'Inspired' as Paul revealed it: the Words, the letters, the general thought, the 'inspiration impulse to write on a particular subject': what?

[4] Who decided there should be a Bible Canon?

[5] 'Who' decided, "Who" should decide, by what standards, and by what authority?

[6] Who then decided, 'What' should be accepted & rejected, by what standards?

[7] When different groups chose different Bible Canons, by different measures, how were disputes settled: by what authority?

[8] Why is the 'Protestant Bible' based on an "Easter Newsletter" of one particular Pastor-Priest: simply stating 'his preference' for the most helpful New Testament writings in his Annual Easter Newsletter - having not the faintest idea that he-by-himself was 'establishing Bible Canon for millennia!'

[9] With no definite, Scriptural answers to any of the just-stated questions - only considerations of 'mere-mortals - 'What is that Book' you read and teach from: the 'Bible'?

[10] The Catholic Church did not face these issues concretely until 1577, and by then the Protestant rebellion to their authority was well under way.

[11] Is it possible - for 'Mere-Mortals' - to decide and decree 'This is the Very-Word-God'?

[12 The answer to that question is an indisputable "Yes!", but it is NOT the way believing theologians 'assume by blind faith'.

That is our prayer, our hope, and our purpose: to provide a basis for Bible Canon that will stand the questioning attacks of the 'post-modern-textual critics and secular skeptics', as well as the test of time - whether Christ's Return be within the century - or not for scores of thousands of years.

SUMMARY AXIOM:
Whatever God's Word is understood to be - and that is legitimately disputed - that God's Word is Eternal and unchanging is neither disputable nor changeable, and no altering of this Truth-premise is acceptable: else it be not the Word of God, but only 'mere-mortals'.

Sadly, in over 2000 years there has never been a non-self-contradicting definition of – the Holy, Inspired, Inerrant, Infallible, Indestructible, Inalienable, Inexhaustible, Infinitive & Impossible-to-Edit Eternal Word of God – which He equates with Himself!
