What Is A “Chaplain”? Lesson-2 The Rankings
It is easier . . . than it seems at first!
 As one might suspect, "Chaplaincy" is as fragmented as Christianity itself! Chaplaincy dates back to AD 700's - with French etymology of the actual word "Chaplain". It has ALWAYS been about ministering to those in Government: thus the terms "Chaplain-&-Chapel" are used instead of the "Pastor-Priest-&-Church", though very similar in function.
Thus Chaplaincy predates ALL modern religious institutions except Catholic, Armenian and Coptic Churches. It took various forms in each nation - and after the Protestant Reformation - a different pathway within each Denomination.
Thus there are 10,000 organizations in the USA alone - who can "Ordain you to Chaplaincy." Each Denomination has their own standards, and sadly . . . there are many different names for the rankings, though thankfully, they all are quite similar.
Though thousands of groups may "Ordain you", there are a dozen major-players: half of these are secular, homosexual-oriented and barely Christian, others Christian "in Name-&-Creed only."
Many are like the YMCA - Young Men's Christian Association - very Christian on paper, not in the least in practice. Some are even non-Christian and Anti-Christian.
In fact, there is only one other major organization we recommend fully - the largest one - which is great in every way: but also the most expensive, requiring dues of 5% of your income during candidacy, and as long as one is a Chaplain. It takes 7-10 years to cross all the hurdles to become that Chaplain. (They are CFGC if you want to check them out)
So "IF" sincere Christianity matters, and unless you are in your own Denominational Program (also usually long and expensive, like their regular Ministerial Ordination, we think we are the best, quickest, lowest-cost, least-hassle, most-ministry-oriented, Chaplain Program in existence!
Yet we are always looking to have a better program. As you "shop the web" for Chaplain Programs, . . . if you find even a better "part-of-a-program" . . . and if you let us know what it is, we will get "the better idea" incorporated into our Chaplain Program as soon as possible, and reward you for it!
At Cambridge Theological Seminary, we chose the best of all systems with names that "make sense" to common people, not versed in 1300 years of Chaplaincy. We believe our "Simplified System" - staying true to "history", it's "purposes" and "God's Word" is what is accelerating us to soon be the largest Chaplaincy Program in the USA (by middle of 2010 perhaps)
So, however you found us (we do not advertise, perhaps 90% is recommendation & referrals - Hopefully the Good Lord led you here!) you came to the right place for "Civilian Chaplaincy"
(The U.S. Military-&-Prison Chaplain Program is extremely expensive, complicated, takes over 10 years, and requires "political appointment." We don't want any ministry where all of your hard work - and our investment in you - all comes down to a "political appointment made on whim" because of favors owed to whomever!)
We applaud you - if this is your choice - and if you so desire, we will help you all we can, but ultimately the "Civilian Chaplaincy" is our major thrust.
[NOTE: Our programs are designed for those of full age, working, maybe married with children / grandchildren, a home, bills, mature and with responsibility. If you are age-18, single, college-partying age, non-working or irresponsible, please seek a different direction.]
Please get these designations well-understood before moving on in your studies toward being Ordained Chaplain.
Ordination Toward "Full-Chaplaincy" LESSON-2: Hierarchy of Chaplain Rankings Thus each ascending rank includes the requirements of all preceding.
[1] Ordained Minister - Grants proper use of the Title Reverend - Allows one to do Funerals, Baptisms, Baby Dedications, Christian Counseling, Weddings (with State or County License acquired locally), and to start or seek Church Pastorate, foreign missions, various kinds of “Home-Based Ministries, etc.
> > Requirement: Testimony of Personal Salvation, Testimony of Personal Calling to Ministry, personal submission to Authority of Scripture, Belief in First-Century Christianity as in the Basic Tenets of the Apostles Creed, Belief in Christ’s Great Commission & World Evangelism, Belief in all nations to be“One Nation Under God” against same-sex marriage.
[2] Ordained Chaplain - Indicates one is a serious Minister, seeking to do Ministry in a “Chapel” or institutional-type setting, primarily, rather than the traditional setting of Local Church, Preaching Revivals, Billy Graham-type Evangelism, etc.
> > Additional Requirement: Needs to complete simple Christian Studies on unity, Christ’s Prayer for Unity, and the great harm done to Christianity by 10,000 Denominations competing, condemning, criticizing, and confusing the Church Christ started, making Christianity the “Most Confusing-Fragmented Philosophy & Religion Ever Known, with over 40,000 versions (denominations) world-wide.
If a Chaplain simply remains “Just-An-Ordained-Chaplain” - not “Registered” with a distinct Organization / Association, it is assumed the “Non-Registered Chaplain” is a “New Age”, “Politically Correct Pluralist” believing / espousing all faiths are equal and correct . . . or perhaps “no faith” is correct . . . or even exists.
Without “Registering” one indicates one is a “Secular Chaplain”, and may espouse open “agnosticism” - or even “atheism” - simply viewing the Chaplaincy as an office to “Comfort-&-Console” from a strictly secularistic, humanistic, evolutionistic, materialistic perspective.
[3] Ordained and "Registered" Indicates a Chaplain has “Registered with an Association of come Religious persuasion (can be Christian, Protestant, Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Orthodox, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, or some other group.)
> > Additional Requirement: If a Chaplain is NOT a secular, humanistic Chaplain, and wishes to openly identify general beliefs, then one “Registers” with an organization whose beliefs and/or goals are similar: whether Catholic, Jewish, Christian or Islamic, etc. For example, the USA’s largest by far is the Chaplaincy of Full-Gospel Churches, with over 270 active appointed Chaplains in US Military.
Denominations with their own Chaplaincy program, "Register and offer “Endorsement”, by the denomination, one of the largest being the “United Brethren Chaplaincy.”
Deceitful Chaplain Organizations: Pro-Homosexual
There are many Non-denominational Chaplain Ordaining groups who secretly embrace homosexuality and same-sex marriage, . . . however, they don't want you to know it. So they market their programs as follows:
> > They use lots of Scripture and pretend to be absolute Bible Believing Christians, to get the "True Bible Believer's" dollars;
> > However, they take NO stand against Homosexuality and Same-Sex Marriage, and their applications are completely open homosexuals to apply to become an Ordained Chaplain in their Organization;
> > This way they get money from both homosexuals and staunch Bible Believers;
Deceitful Chaplain Organizations: Ashamed of Jesus
There are other Non-denominational Chaplain Ordaining groups who are secretly AGAINST homosexuality and same-sex marriage, . . . however, they are ashamed to say so and afraid of possible gay-groups against them and/or the loss of the homosexual dollars.
> > They use the same strategy as those above. > > This way they get money from both open homosexuals and deceived staunch Bible Believers;
Chaplain Organizations NOT Ashamed of Jesus
In fact, dear "Fellow-Laborer" we are seeking to make a listing of all Chaplain Ordaining groups who DO take a stand for Jesus Christ, and require applicants SIGN their name against homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
As you are researching the internet, please pass on to us any groups you find who make this requirement, that we may recommend them as possible alternative groups.
We don't mind admitting that the “Chaplaincy of Full Gospel Churches” - is the leading Chaplaincy Organization in the USA as of 2008.
However, the “Cambridge Confederation of Bible Christian Chaplains” - represents the largest group of Basic Bible Believing Christians in the world . . . , and is poised to become the world’s largest Ordainer of Christian Chaplains very soon, as the Civilian Chaplaincy Ministry continues to grow world-wide - especially in the USA, thus offering the most opportunities to the broadest group of non-sectarian, non-narrow-minded genuine, serious Christians.
[4] Ordained, Registered and "Certified" Chaplain This indicates a particular skill from Course of Study or Training.
> > Additional Requirement: Specific courses taken, on-the-job-training, various seminars, schools and studies, from many agencies, etc., indicating one is “Qualified” for certain positions. Can have many "Certifications."
[5] Ordained, Registered, Certified and Endorsed Chaplain - This indicates a particular “imprimatur” from an Endorsing agency, outside of the field where a Chaplain practices.
> > Additional Requirement: To receive an “Endorsement” implies something like a “Full-&-Superior Recommendation” - not just from anyone (such as parents, friends or “Home Church”!) but from some agency with “credentials in the field, an Institution of some reputation”, testifying to Attitude, Beliefs, Character, Dependability, Experience, Fiduciary Trust, Genuineness, etc.
Perhaps it is obvious, at least to some degree, that to pick up several “Endorsements” can provide more credibility and opportunities for chaplains.
[6] Ordained, Registered, Certified, and Endorsed equals a "Full-Chaplain!"
> > Additional Requirement: A Full-Chaplain simply means one has achieved all of the previous stages and/or designations.
THREE NOTES:
* * Note-I: One can achieve “Full-Chaplain” without a single-credit of formal accredited College.
* * Note-II: “Full-Chaplaincy” does NOT necessarily qualify for U.S. Federal Positions in Prison, and US Military.
* * Note-III: Any level, from Ordained to Full-Chaplain can be considered "Auxiliary" Chaplain, and can work under Full-or-Master Chaplains.
[7] Master Chaplain: Indicates one has become a “Full Chaplain” - plus has a Bachelor's Degree.
> > Additional Requirement: Simply has - or adds - a USDE Accredited 4-yr Bachelor’s Degree, to the Full-Chaplaincy designation. This allows “Master Chaplains“ to appoint and oversee “Full-Chaplains” and “Auxiliary Chaplains” to work under them.
NOTE: An “Auxiliary Chaplain”, (sometimes called Associate Chaplain, Non-Commissioned Chaplains, etc.) is one who works under a higher-ranking Chaplain.
[8] US Government Chaplain: Indicates one has passed through several of the initial steps through Master Chaplaincy:
> > Additional Requirement: Adds a USDE Accredited 3-year Seminary Degree to Bachelor’s Degree,
Will have some extra Endorsements and/or Certifications for VA Hospitals, US or State Congresses, and/or other government agencies.
[9] US Military Chaplain: Indicates one has first become a “Government Chaplain.” Political appointment often involved.
> > Additional Requirement: Adds several Military Qualifications to basic Government Requirements including age limits, etc. Varies somewhat with each branch of Military.Political appointment involved.
This indicates the Doctorate in Chaplaincy has been attained and added to any of the preceding levels, from Full-Chaplaincy onward.
> > Additional Requirement: Doctor of Chaplaincy, Ch.D., consists of Formal Studies, Experience, Achievement - from writing and/or publishing to initiating and/or success in Chaplaincy Ministry.
Cambridge Theological Seminary (USA) * Cambridge Confederation Bible Christian Chaplains
[I] The “CCBCC” is a trans-denominational Non-Profit Non-Incorporated Association with 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt-Status; with Basic Born-Again Bible-Believing Chaplains as Members: This is based on three absolutes of Scripture:
> > [A] "Except a person be Born Again, one cannot enter the Kingdom of God." --Jesus Christ AD-30 John 3.5
> > [B] "Whoseover believeth that Jesus is the Christ is Born of God." --John about Jesus Christ AD-1st Century John 5.1
> > [C] "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life!" --Jesus Christ AD-30 John 3.16
These are the “three absolutes” along with the General Statement of Faith in being Ordained, one’s Submission to the Authority of the Holy Bible, belief in the basic tenets of the Apostle’s Creed, etc.
[I] The "CCBCC” is also “Patriotic” - not in a jingoistic, elitist fashion, nor from any supremacy position, but a simple basic love of our Founding Freedom Documents” - from the Pilgrims and their Mayflower Compact onward: our basic purposes & principles of “true Democracy“ , our motto “In God We Trust” - our flag, and “Pledge to the Flag” with “Liberty and Justice for all” - our Statue of Lady Liberty, . . .
. . . with a wholesome pride in our willingness to save Europe from self-destruction in two-World Wars, protecting the freedom of South Korea, the attempt to keep South Viet Nam free, ending the Communist Regime in the USSR, liberating Kuwait, settling the Balkans, deposing Dictator Hussein; all long after correcting our own sins of slavery in our Civil War . . .
. . . Our ever-present willingness and eagerness to give . . . to criss-cross the world in Disaster Relief to all nations - from Hindu to Islam - even to those who despise us - in feeding the hungry, clothing the ill-clad, mending the broken and medicating the sick, assisting political refugees; seeking peace with God and all nations . . .
. . . We the USA, we are not perfect, have not yet arrived, have not always taken the “Straightest Path" . . .but we are on The Way!
. . . As such, we the Chaplains of the CCBCC are not ashamed to be: Chaplains of the United States of America!
**“Cambridge Confederation Bible Christian Chaplains”
Simply an indication that one has pursued at least "Certification" and/or "Endorsement" of the “Chaplaincy Ministry” through the Cambridge Theological Seminary Program, being as part of the larger Christian movement, well on it’s way to becoming the largest such group in the USA sometime in 2010;
Without question, the “lowest cost”, the CCBCC is the quickest pathway to Ordination and “Full Chaplain: As such we espouse the following ideals:
> > Non-sectarian, non-divisive, and non-denominational;
> > Seeking the unity of all who accept the Authority of the Holy Scriptures, seeking to interpret carefully as answering unto Christ Himself personally;
> > Seeking the Fellowship of all who believe that “Jesus is the Christ! The Answer in all matters! The Hope for our nation and world tomorrow;
> > Seeking the Salvation of those who have not yet so understood;
> > Seeking and sharing support of the same, as “Members-one-of-another”- when one succeeds, all rejoice . . . when one hurts, all hurt, . . . and when one has need, all respond and give as unto the Lord . . .
> > Remembering in all situations: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
