Shepherds ABIDING [living] in the fields, were 'Nomadic Bedouins' Luk 2.8

Lu 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

WHAT DO WE KNOW?

We KNOW from the Christmas Series '55 Fabulous Facts' that these Shepherds were NOMADIC BEDOUINS, those who LIVED in the fields - with their whole families including CHILDREN!

We KNOW that it was the custom of all the Middle East - and especially the Bedouins to have LARGE FAMILIES. Jesus Himself had four Brothers (Simon, Joses, Judas & James) and perhaps four sisters or more. Right to 15 children were not uncommon at all, so we know there lost of children at most ages.

[NOTE! If people married young and didn't use birth control pills, they would have a baby every year for probably 20 years with a couple sets of twins!]

We KNOW that these 'extended families' included GRAND-PARENTS, and often GREAT-GRAND PARENTS who stayed with the younger family and traveled with them from pasture to pasture - having no where else to go.

We KNOW that these Bedouin Shepherds ALL had Sheep-Dogs - perhaps the most advanced of all dogs - from seeing-eye-dogs to those which ;sniff-cancer'!

We KNOW there is greatest possibility that the Angel's Annunciation was given to Lady Shepherds - even if the husband was there - simply because of the message given, about the 'style of baby clothes': something men don't know too much about, then or now!

We KNOW that whomever the Angel personally addressed, the whole family would have been awakened by the vast multitude of Angels Praising God and saying: GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST! And on Earth - PEACE & good will toward all people!

We KNOW that the Husband-&-Wife-Bedouin-Shepherds would have wanted their children & parents to experience this GREATEST OF ALL EVENTS IN HISTORY!

Luke 2:10 "I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to ALL people."

Christ always cared also for the children - even putting them on His knees and telling His disciples, if you don't become like this 'LITTLE CHILD' you'll NEVER enter my kingdom! [Matt 18].

God's focus was also upon the elderly having Simeon & Anna see, receive and bless the Baby Christ.

Lu 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Lu 2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

Lu 2:36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she * was of a great * * age *, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; Lu 2:37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years,

We also can ASSUME that at least one or two of the several Sheep-Dogs would have accompanied the Husband-&-wife-Shepherds with their say 'half-dozen' children and grandparents, going to Bethlehem in the night - probably carrying a 'fire-torch' or two - with wolves, lions & even bars in the vicinity.

Without a doubt - Godly LADY Shepherds & Children were at the Nativity!

For sure, we would have found Joseph & Mary, the Baby Christ, perhaps some little lambs & calves at the stable, as well as the visiting Shepherds with several children, their pet Sheep-Dog, Grandpa & Grandma & perhaps a Great-Grand-Parent!
