Obama denies Knowing His Jet Flew over NYCNYC - (API) [At the bottom are additional accounts by New York Post and NY Times]An Air Force fighter jet and President Barack Obama’s official "AIR FORCE ONE" on Monday flew low over the Statue of Liberty, literally "buzzing" New York City in an in an approved "photo op" that startled some New Yorkers who have memories of the September 11 attacks. People in New York remain sensitive to such incidents in lower Manhattan, site of the 2001 attacks involving hijacked airliners that destroyed the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. Some people wept. Some literally trembled with fear. Others prayed. Many people left their buildings in a panic, and the streets were full of people running for fear. The U.S. Air Force, which operates the president’s plane, said the “aerial photo mission” involved an F-16 fighter jet escort and one of the Boeing 747s designated as Air Force One when the president is aboard. Obama was not on board. Police said federal authorities told them not to disclose the information ahead of time but to direct inquiries to the Federal Aviation Administration. Mayor Bloomberg is still furious as he did not know. Bliterally loomberg went ballistic Monday after the U.S. military - without any warning to the public - buzzed New York City with one of the presidential planes trailed by an F-16 fighter jet. Flying in as low as 1000 feet to 150 feet above New York City and taking photographs along the way, the planes circled the Statue of Liberty and flew over Manhattan, Staten Island, and New Jersey - then vanished. FACT-3: This is the law for the simple reason, if President Barack Obama's personal jet "Air Force One" is out taking a senator somewhere, or the maintenance people fly it to Miami for some tune-ups, it is NOT available at his discretion to take him and his family to safety should an emergency arise.
