Christian Minister Ordination

A Beginning Study According to Scripture

What does it Mean? For Whom? By Whom?

**If you have not read Ordained Minister: "What does that Mean 'PART-1'?" You'll be surprised!" Please do so first.

Ordained Minister: "What does that Mean 'PART-1'?"

“Ordained” is not an uncommon word, or even one that is seldom used. Millions of Christians have grown up all of their life with “Ordained Elders, Ordained Deacons, Ordained Priests, Ordained Pastors“, etc., so it is not that with which we have never had association with.

I am certain most of you could give a pretty good answer to the question: “What does ordained mean?” - especially if you already are an Ordained Elder, Ordained Deacon, Ordained Priest, or Ordained Pastor, Ordained Evangelist, etc.

In fact, in four-decades of being in a ministry that “Ordains to Ministry” - from 90 nations around the world - I do not remember anyone seeking Ordination who asked: “exactly what does Ordination mean?” Apparently, most people are quite satisfied with their understanding of the word.

[NOTE OF PREFACE: Remember, that among our readers are those from middle-school age to 100; from those struggling to read and write to those with multiple Ph.D. Degrees. I do not wish to be offensive, but I do want to make a point].

IN GREATEST PROBABILITY - neither you, nor any one you know (even if you serve on staff at a well-known Bible College or Seminary) - have a full, Scriptural understanding of what it means to be “Ordained.”

Please don’t be angry. God has led you thus far to this ministry for some reason, so give God an opportunity to work a “reformation in your understanding.”

ORDINATION:

> > [A] Who can be Ordained?

> > [B] Who says - who can be Ordained?

> > [C] Who says, or selects a group -“who will say” - who can, and who cannot, be Ordained?

> > [D] Who decides “what the credentials are” - for those whom they say, can, and cannot be, Ordained?

> > [E] Whenever all of this is decided, how do we know this is correct Scripturally? Does all of it fit well with EVERY example in Scripture? (The word “Ordain is used 24 times in the New Testament. All 24 Scriptures are written out below for your convenience!)

> > [F] Once all of this is decided, who actually does the “Ordaining”? Is it instantaneous as some say, or does it take 4-7 years of formal education as most denominations say?

> > [G] Can only Ordained persons, “Ordain other persons“? (who Ordained Paul?)

> > [H] Can one Ordained individual Ordain another individual? Or does it take multiple Ordained persons (a Group of Elders) to Ordain someone?

> > [I] Are applicants-for-Ordination “volunteers” (self-nominated) “nominated by one who is Ordained“, nominated “by others”, or “selected in some other way?” (one of the many Greek words for Ordain is to “cast lots”).

> > [J] Why do Paul’s instructions on qualifications to Timothy (I Tim 3), differ from those to Titus? (in Titus 1).

> > [K] Both sets of qualifications “seem to require marriage and having a household in order“, yet neither Paul, Timothy, nor Titus were married, and they were all Ordained.

> > [L] Are these qualifications for their whole life, or only apply to after one has become born-again?

> > [M] A “laying on of hands” seems to be indicated, yet Paul Ordained some while he was in prison, by letter. (See Scriptures given below)

> > [N] Most applicants in this modern era are “Ordained as Pastor“, yet there is not a single person Ordained as Pastor in the New Testament. No one knows what NT Pastor did, or was supposed to do. All of our modern customs are just that: customs.

> > [O] Once anyone has been “Ordained” to any office, is that for life? Are they ever “Confirmed or re-Confirmed”? Can they ever be stripped of their authority, title and office? If so by whom, on what grounds? Does it have to be by the same one(s) who Ordained them? What if that group were older and have since passed away?

> > [P] Does the applicant have to be “called of God” - if not, why not . . . and if so - “who” determines this, “how”, and “who says”?

> > [Q] I Tim 3.1 seems to imply personal desire: “If any man desire the office of a “Bishop” let him be . . . .” Is desire the call?

> > [R] What are the exact duties and authority of those who are Ordained as Elders, Deacons, Bishops, Apostles, Teachers, Evangelists, etc.?

> > [S] Did you know that NONE of these words, titles, offices, etc., - Elders, Ministers, Deacons, Bishops, Apostles, Evangelists, are “spiritual words“, per se, originating in the Old Covenant of Israel?

> > [T] Did you know that ALL of these words, titles, offices, etc., were in full operation in Ancient and Classical Greece for hundreds of years before Jesus was born?

> > [U] Did you know that even the Greek word for “Church” - of which Jesus said “I will build ‘My Church‘!” - was also a secular word for nearly 800 years, and used every day, in every community and city of Greece - and throughout much of the Hellenistic, Greek-speaking world?

> > [V] Did you know that Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, Anglicans, Pentecostals, do not even come close to answering these questions and having a “Doctrine of Ordination" that is in harmony with the 24 Scriptures all given below. the 14 different Greek words, their 95 different possible meanings, and the 17 untranslated places.

> > [W] No Answers: This article is not going to give you ANY answers. Some of you are newly Ordained, and some have been for 50 years. My goal is to get you to read the Scripture with wise eyes, and open heart, whispering prayer with every word you read for the Holy Spirit to guide you as you STUDY & THINK . . . upon these things, and ask God to guide your understanding.

> > [X] I want you to visit Ministers-Best-Friend.com everyday for the rest of your life and read 10,000 webpages (some of which are well over 100 typewritten pages each), and I want this to be an introduction to much of my teaching method.

I have no desire to “spoon-feed” you with my ideas. I have the greatest desire to ask you questions of the ages - most of which haven’t been answered to the sincere questioner’s satisfaction and even the Baptists, Presbyterians and Pentecostals haven’t persuaded each other - so they keep competing, criticizing, condemning, and confusing . . . the Cause of Christ . . . while His Commission receives little Care-&-Concern . . .

> > [Y] You have the Scriptures, and you have the Internet. Don’t go back 100 years to your grandparents' day, 400 years to the King James Version, 500 years to the birth of Protestantism, or even 1,000 or 1,800 years. Go all the way back to the generation and culture of Jesus Christ and LEARN the following:
> > > What did these words meat to the people to whom Christ & Paul spoke them?

> > > How had they been used everyday for centuries by the Greeks, who developed the Greek Language: the Language God sovereignly chose out of many thousands of languages, to be the “Language of His Only Begotten Son and His Apostles to take the Gospel to the World!?

> > > Did Christ “coin any new words-or-phrases?”

> > > What did Jesus retain from the Old Covenant and Judaism?

> > > What from Greek or Jewish culture did Jesus use, but “change it somewhat”?

> > > If all of the thousands of denominations would work HONESTLY on these questions, they would become ONE Family, of the ONE Faith that saves, by the ONE Lord, of whom the WHOLE FAMILY in Heaven and Earth is Named: LORD JESUS the CHRIST (not Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Wesleyan, or any other besides the NAME above Every Name!

> > [Z] Lastly, I want you to ask yourself: “Now that I am ‘Ordained’ what does that mean, and how shall I change the way I live?” Thanks for reading! NewtonStein!

Here are the facts of the “Ordain” as used in the English Bible (using the KJV for example):

> > [I] The Word ordain and/or ordained is used in the KJV New Testament 24 times (each verse is listed below for your convenience.)

> > [II] However, the one word in the English - Ordain/Ordained - represents fourteen [14] different Greek words - which are no where near the same in meaning (which is why they are 14-different words in the Greek as used by Jesus and Paul) - that were all translated, so unfortunately, “Ordain” - in the English Bible by the King James “Government-Paid-translators” in the KJV.

> > [III] These fourteen Greek words (all also given below) are used in the NT 1474 times only 24 of which are translated Ordain/Ordained.

> > [IV] These fourteen Greek words have 95 possible different meanings among them (all given below).

> > [V] These fourteen Greek words were actually translated into 129 different English Words (all given below), yet each of them were also translated “Ordain” from 1-to-3 times.

> > [VI] Thankfully, all fourteen Greek Words are “verbs.”

> > [VII] As if this were not confusing enough, the various Greek words - because of the complexity of the specific situation (verb tense, grammar, word association, etc.,) - collectively were simply left “untranslated” 17 times - just left completely out of your Bible! [An * in a verse indicates where a word was simply left untranslated!]

Please, look over this a few moments

I plead with you to look over this simple ‘Word Study’ of the word “Ordain.” It is NOT comprehensive - but it does give some picture of the complexity of the issue. Keep in mind also that “Koine Greek” (New testament Greek) is a “Dead Language”, has not been spoken for well over 1000 years, that punctuation is NOT known, and some words in Scripture have never been found used in Greek society and no one knows their meanings.

Below are all 24 Scriptures where the word “Ordain/Ordained” is used in the NT. The Greek word and definition are given by number-#. (all from Strong’s Lexicon - the most widely accepted Lexicon over the recent centuries, non-denominational, around the world).

“YOU” decide which of the many possible meanings, and usages go with which word, then develop a doctrine that includes EVERY place all fourteen of the Greek words are used with their 95 possible meanings.

Note the following types of Ordination:

> > Father God Ordained His son Jesus to be Judge

> > Jesus Ordained the twelve to be with Him, and to preach

> > The 120 Ordained an “eyewitness” to replace Judas the eyewitness

> > Believers were Ordained to eternal Life

> > Paul Ordained elders

> > Paul appointed elders to Ordain other elders, as he Ordained elders

> > One of the main words for Ordain is to “select by voting”

> > One is used to select by “casting lots”

> > Civil & judicial powers are said to be “Ordained” of God,

> > One Greek word for Ordained is a jurisdictional boundary from which we get our modern word “horizon”

> > One Greek Word is to “set a geographic boundary”

> > The Law of Moses was Ordained to Life

> > Angels Ordained through a mediator

> > Apostles, preachers and teachers were specifically said to be Ordained offices,

> > Pastors, prophets and evangelists were not specifically said to be Ordained, though they are usually assumed to be.

> > Deacon’s, Elders, and Bishops were Ordained (These were all secular offices in Greek Culture)

> > Paul Ordained Timothy Bishop of Ephesus , by letter, when Paul was in prison in Rome (see below)

> > When Paul Ordained Timothy First Bishop of Ephesus, there were reported to be over 3,000 house Churches with 10 to 150 members apiece!

> > Paul Ordained Titus Bishop of a small country - Crete - over the Bishops of the several cities,

> > One word for Ordained is always translated “fore-ordained and/or preordained” - one even states before foundation of the world!

> > One word and Scripture applies to “Decrees being ’Ordained’ by Apostles and Elders at Jerusalem in Acts 15” - which were also approved by the Church at large.

> > One word “Ordained” is geographic boundaries for a region of jurisdiction (as in cities or nations for Bishops).

> > High Priests were Ordained to offer gifts in Old Covenant

> > The ungodly were ordained to condemnation. (See Jude)

[Some of these many simple facts make a literal mockery of “typical incomplete Protestant teaching” on what Ordination is, for whom/what, by whom, and how brought about].

If you can put together an Ordination Doctrine that applies to all Scriptures,

. . . including all kinds of Ordination, all 14-Greek words used, the possible 95 meanings, ["appoint", "set-in-order", "approve", "select by vote", "choose" are all related] and all other Scriptures referring to qualifications, Ordination practices, etc., and I will gladly give you the income from this ministry for the next year!

*** I urgently want you to see the great complexity of “Scriptural Ordination” (and almost every doctrine is just as complex - some much more - and equally as uncertain in details as Ordination!)

*** God could have given us 100 EXACT details for who, what, how, by whom, which way, with tremendous detail . . . but if He had, we humans would have gotten lost in obeying detail and make the details more important than the reason for the details and the Giver of the details.

*** I urgently want you to see the utter futility of “striving over detail” to no profit. With all of the modern conveniences of information, communication and travel of the 20th century, we reached a LESSER percentage of the world for Jesus than did the century before!

*** (In no small part because we have wasted billions of dollars and hours studying that which Jesus NEVER mentioned in any public teaching! Deceived! How utterly foolish!)

What I want you to see is that there is a reason for the thousands and thousands of denominations - "all straining at gnats and swallowing camels"; all striving about questions of detail to no profit, all failing miserably - losing members. failing visitors and losing their own children - while they're busy NOT serving Christ: feuding, fussing. fighting suing - confusing, competing, criticizing, condemning and continually castrating each other - in the Name of Jesus!"

FACT: Scripture is VERY UNCERTAIN ON ALMOST EVERYTHING!

Denominations think they know! (They only display their true ignorance!)

The LETTER of any law of God killeth! The SPIRIT of every Law of God giveth life!

The truth is, most doctrines in the New Testament are much more complicated than Ordination, which is why there are a dozen positions for everything, with denominations fighting like the fools they are - while the western world goes to Hell via High School and Hollywood.

If you will be wise - cast in the commode about 80% of everything you think you “know about Christ and Christianity and His Word", start all over again, and adopt Paul’s Principle:
For I purposed to know NOTHING among you save for Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.
Jesus explained it this way:

“Don’t strain gnats and swallow camels”

Christianity in western culture spends so much time and energy “straining gnats” that it doesn’t realize it is choking to death by swallowing camels!”

** Give up “gnat straining”!

** “Stop camel swallowing!”

** "A Church divided (His household of faith) will not stand!" Jesus GUARANTEED THIS

Please consider:

Most of us KNOW there is 'ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Family, ONE Gospel & ONE Church'!

Most of us further KNOW Scripture COMMANDS us to CHRISTIAN UNITY, but most of us fail to realize the great degree to which God commands us to be in unity:

Not KNOWING about Christian Unity, Not WORKING for Christian Unity, Not TEACHING about Christian Unity, Not EVEN CARING about Christian Unity, EQUALS lack of Christian UNITY! This is Christians Greatest Sin!

1 Cor 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye ALL speak the same thing, and that there be NO divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the SAME mind and in the SAME judgment.

1 Cor 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, . . . that there are contentions among you.

1 Cor 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

1 Cor 1:13 Is Christ divided? No!

Let's break down this Scripture about Christians Greatest Sin! : Now I BESEECH you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

> > [1] Let ALL

> > [2] speak the SAME THING

> > [3] there be NO DIVISION AMONG YOU!

> > [4] but that ye be PERFECTLY

> > [5] JOINED TOGETHER

> > [6] Let ALL be of the SAME MIND

> > [7] and in the SAME JUDGMENT!

> > [8] and that there be NO CONTENTIONS AMONG YOU!

> > [9] Let NO ONE SAY: 'I am a Roman Catholic!' 'I am a Protestant!' 'I am a Lutheran!' 'I am a King James Only Christian!' 'I am a Baptist!'

(NOTE! Paul used current names & divisions of their times - not Moses, Aaron, or David, so the Scripture as given above is the CORRECT TRUTH COMMUNICATED!)'

> > [10] as Christ is NOT DIVIDED!

Most Christians know these commands forbidding division, though they may be powerfully surprised - “IF“ they study them until greatly under conviction - to that nearly-impossible degree God expects us to BECOME ONE IN UNITY!
